FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Pileggi Elected Majority Leader of the State SenateHarrisburg, Pennsylvania Senator Dominic Pileggi (R-9) was today elected by his Senate Republican colleagues to serve as Senate Majority Leader for the 2007-2008 legislative session. Pileggi holds the second-highest ranking position in Senate Leadership. His duties include setting the legislative agenda, developing policies and strategies for the Senate Republican Caucus, and leading debates on the Senate floor. He will also play a major role in negotiating issues with the Administration and House of Representatives. "I'm looking forward to working on important legislative issues in the upcoming session, including reducing taxes, reforming government, and making health care more affordable," Pileggi said. "I believe that the Legislature needs to move forward on issues that are important to Pennsylvanians, and I look forward to that challenge." Pileggi previously served as Chairman of the Senate Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Pileggi was first elected to the Pennsylvania Senate in a Special Election held on October 1, 2002. Prior to his election to the Senate, Senator Pileggi served as Mayor of the City of Chester from 1998 to 2002.
