Senator Pileggi Reminds Local Families to File "Free Application for Student Aid" Forms

Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi is encouraging college-bound Pennsylvania students who are seeking financial aid to file the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) form as soon as possible. The deadline for submitting the FAFSA for most Pennsylvania residents is May 1.

"The rising cost of higher education is a burden on many families," said Senator Pileggi. "I encourage all families with children attending college to file a FAFSA form so that they do not miss out on possible federal or state grants and other financial aid."

The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for most federal and state grants, scholarships, low-cost student loans, and work-study programs, in addition to the Pennsylvania State Grant Program administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, and by many colleges for their own student aid programs.

The FAFSA form can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, a web site managed by Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education.

A paper copy of the application may be obtained from high school counselors, college financial aid offices, or by contacting one of Senator Pileggi's three district offices: Media, (610) 565-9100; Chester, (610) 447-5845; or West Grove, (610) 345-1084.
