FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senator Pileggi Receives Benjamin Franklin Medal for Work on Behalf of Higher EducationSenate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) last night was named the 2008 recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Medal for Distinguished Achievement on Behalf of Higher Education by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP). "Senator Pileggi has been a visionary leader in recognizing the importance of independent higher education and its economic development benefits for cities, towns and communities throughout the Commonwealth," said AICUP President Don Francis. "I am honored to receive this award," said Sen. Pileggi. "Pennsylvania is blessed with an abundance of quality colleges and universities, and the students there are one of our greatest resources." The Benjamin Franklin Medal, named for one of our nation's and Pennsylvania's earliest and most recognized leaders, is presented to individuals "who have made an extraordinary contribution to the ongoing vitality and effectiveness of Pennsylvania's colleges and universities," according to AICUP.
