Senator Pileggi to Serve on Saint Joseph's
University Board of Trustees
Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) has been elected to a four-year
term on the Board of Trustees of Saint Joseph's University.
"I'm pleased to serve on the Saint Joseph's University board because I have
the highest respect for this institution and its students," said Senator
Pileggi. "Higher education is crucial in today's competitive economy, and I want
to work with my fellow board members to help Saint Joseph's provide the best
possible education to those who attend the university."
Senator Pileggi, a 1979 graduate of Saint Joseph's, is one of four new
members on the board. He represents the 9th Senatorial District, which includes
parts of Chester and Delaware counties. He was elected Majority Leader by his
colleagues in November 2006.
During the current legislation session, Senator Pileggi led efforts to
rewrite the state's 50-year-old Open Records Law to make government records more
easily available to the public. He has also championed a number of other reforms
in the Senate to make state government more accountable to citizens and authored
legislation to ensure proper funding for Pennsylvania's Hazardous Sites Cleanup
Fund.
Founded by the Society of Jesus in 1851, Saint Joseph's University is home to
4,200 full-time undergraduates and 3,100 graduate, part-time, and doctoral
students. Steeped in the 450-year Jesuit tradition of scholarship and service,
the university strives to be recognized as the preeminent comprehensive Catholic
university in the Northeast.
Prior to his election to the Senate, Senator Pileggi served as Mayor of the
City of Chester from 1998 to 2002.
Senator Pileggi was the recipient of a Presidential Scholarship from Saint
Joseph's University, where he received an A.B. degree in Economics. He graduated
from the Villanova School of Law in 1982. |
