Governor Signs Pileggi Bill to Clear Up Blighted Properties

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

On November 29, 2006, Governor Rendell signed legislation into law sponsored by Senator Dominic Pileggi (R-9) that would make it easier for redevelopment authorities to rehabilitate blighted unclaimed properties.

Pileggi said Senate Bill 665 would expand the list of eligible applicants for letters of administration to include redevelopment authorities in cases when there are no heirs to the property.

The goal of this legislation is to accelerate the clean-up of blighted areas in situations when a homeowner or property owner dies, the property is vacant and abandoned, and there are no survivors," Pileggi said.  "It will be an important tool in fighting blight and ensuring that abandoned properties are rehabilitated and neighborhoods remain strong."
