FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Senate Policy Committee to Hold October 17 Public Hearing in Chester County on Funding for Growing School DistrictsHARRISBURG – The Senate Policy Committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, October 17, in Chester County to hear testimony on the state's basic education funding formula and its impact on growing school districts, Committee Chairman Senator Jake Corman (R-34) and Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) announced today. The hearing will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Avon Grove Intermediate School on 375 South Jennersville Road (Route 896) in West Grove. The panel will hear input on the state's basic education funding formula and its impact on growing school districts and will use information from the hearing and others held around the state to develop strategies on how to better shape the formula. Among those scheduled to testify are state and local education officials, a representative of the Chester County Planning Commission and a local business owner. "We have heard from many school board members, school district superintendents, and citizens that Pennsylvania's basic education funding formula is out of date and in need of restructuring," Corman said. "We also know that the current formula does a poor job of recognizing growing school districts in Pennsylvania. The Majority Policy Committee is committed to looking at this situation more closely so we can advocate for the appropriate changes." Pileggi said the hearing will enable Chester County school officials to provide input on the growth pressures they are facing and the need to ensure that state funding is available to meet those demands. The media and public are invited to attend. |
