Pileggi's Open Records Legislation Signed Into Law

Legislation sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) to rewrite and strengthen Pennsylvania’s 50-year-old Open Records Law has been signed into law.

Senator Pileggi joined Gov. Ed Rendell and a bipartisan group of legislators at the bill-signing ceremony yesterday in the State Capitol Building.

"Many times, we say that legislation is 'historic' or call it a 'landmark' piece of legislation," said Sen. Pileggi. "Sometimes, that’s a bit of a stretch. But I think those words accurately describe Senate Bill 1. For the first time in over 50 years, we have a modern, responsive Open Records Law in Pennsylvania. It should substantially change the dynamic between citizens and their government.

"This law affirms the right of citizens to inspect government records. Years from now, we can look back and see this as a turning point in the relationship between citizens and their government."
