FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Sen. Pileggi Named SCCOOT "Person of the Year"Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) recently received the SCCOOT "Person of the Year" Award for 2008 during a meeting of the Southern Chester Chamber of Commerce. SCCOOT bus service connects Oxford to West Chester with stops in West Grove, Lincoln University, Kennett Square and Longwood Gardens. These routes are subsidized by grants from Pennsylvania's Welfare to Work program and the federal government's Job Access Reverse Commute program. "Our state funds are always at risk," said Jack E. Weber Jr., chairman of SCCOOT. "Senator Pileggi understood that and he worked behind the scenes to ensure that the state budget included funds for SCCOOT. He also was keenly aware of our need for permanent, dedicated funding, and worked to provide that in Act 44 of 2007. These are the reasons that Senator Pileggi is our Person of the Year." "It was an honor to receive this award," Sen. Pileggi said. "SCCOOT provides a vital service to its riders. When the General Assembly passed legislation last year to provide stable funding for mass transit, SCCOOT was one of the small but crucial systems that I knew had to be included." SCCOOT, which operates Monday through Saturday, is a partnership with the Transportation Management Association of Chester County and the Southern Chester County Organization on Transportation, which is a joint committee of the Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce and the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce. More information about state issues can be found on Senator Pileggi's website, www.senatorpileggi.com. Visitors to the web site can also sign up for email updates. |
