Senator Pileggi and Representative Barrar to Host Energy Expo in Aston

ASTON – Rep. Stephen E. Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware) and Sen. Dominic Pileggi (R-Chester/Delaware) will collaborate to host an Energy Expo in February.

“By bringing experts on energy conservation into the community, in one convenient location, people can easily get all the information they need to reduce their energy consumption,” Pileggi said.

“As energy prices continue to rise, people need advice on what they can do to save energy and, in turn, save money,” said Barrar.

The expo will take place on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Aston Community Center, located at 3270 Concord Road in Aston.

The event will feature agencies, organizations and businesses that will discuss reducing peak-time energy consumption, home weatherization, smart meters, solar power, geothermal power, and other ways to cut energy consumption and energy costs. Additionally, representatives from the state will be on hand to talk about the Keystone Home Energy Loan Program (HELP). This program helps Pennsylvania homeowners improve the energy efficiency of their homes by providing loans of up to $35,000 for home energy improvements.

Pileggi and Barrar agreed that energy conservation is not only important for the environment, but also for every family’s budget, especially with the impending expiration of rate caps on electricity generation. Rate caps for PECO customers will expire on Dec. 31, 2010. After the expiration, electricity rates are expected to increase for consumers. Legislation to mitigate the impact of those cost increases is being developed.

Pileggi noted that the Commonwealth adopted landmark energy legislation last session with the passage of the Alternative Energy Investment Act, which provides $650 million to fund a variety of programs designed to boost renewable energy development and help consumers reduce energy use.

“Pennsylvania is striving to expand its energy portfolio, but there also has to be a consumer driven effort to reduce energy usage. This expo will teach residents what they can do to use less energy,” said Barrar.

For more information about the event, contact Barrar’s office at (610) 485-7606 or Pileggi’s Glen Mills office at (610) 358-5183.
