Senator Pileggi Announces Opening of Solar Grant Program for Pennsylvania Residents, Small Businesses

Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9) is encouraging area residents and small business owners to take advantage of grants available through the Pennsylvania Sunshine Solar Program.

The program, created by the Alternative Energy Investment Act which Senator Pileggi worked to enact last year, is now accepting applications. Grants will be funded on a first-come, first-serve basis so it is important for people interested in the program to get information as soon as possible.

"Purchasing and installing solar equipment can be expensive," Senator Pileggi said. "It makes sense for our environment and for Pennsylvania's economy to provide these incentives. I encourage anyone interested in considering solar power for their home or small business to learn about the Pennsylvania Sunshine Solar Program."

To be eligible for a state grant, residential applicants must be Pennsylvania residents and must own the home where solar power will be installed. Residential projects can only be completed at a homeowner's primary residence, not a vacation home or an investment property.

Small business applicants must have no more than 100 full-time employees, must be located in Pennsylvania, and must be a separate legal entity. Agricultural producers of farm commodities are eligible.

Grants are available for both solar electric (solar photovoltaic) and solar hot water (solar thermal) projects.
