Senator Pileggi: Sheriff McGinn Named to Board of Governors for the State
System of Higher Education
Sheriff Joseph F. McGinn has been confirmed by the
state Senate to serve a four-year term on the State System of Higher
Education's Board of Governors, Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-9)
announced today.
As a member of the Board of Governors, Sheriff McGinn
will help to set general, personnel and financial policies for the 14
universities in the State System, including Cheyney University and West
Chester University.
"Sheriff McGinn's background uniquely qualifies him to
help oversee the state-owned universities," Senator Pileggi said. "His
perspective as a former student at a state system university and as a former
college professor will be an asset to the board."
Sheriff McGinn taught at Delaware County Community
College from 1984 until 2006. In 1989, he earned a Master's of Education
degree from Cheyney University. He earned a Bachelor's Degree of Science in
Education from Temple University in 1978.
"I am honored to serve on the Board of Governors," said
Sheriff McGinn. "Education has always been important to me, and I look
forward to helping make the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education
even better."
The State System of Higher Education Board of Governors
meets quarterly (in January, April, July and October) at the Dixon
University Center in Harrisburg. The meetings are usually two-day events.
Additional board meetings and committee meetings are held periodically
throughout the year, sometimes on the campus of a State System university.
Sheriff McGinn was unanimously confirmed by the Senate
on Monday, June 15.
