Senator Pileggi: Free Tax Preparation on March 22

CHESTER – Free tax preparation services will be available in Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi's Chester district office on Monday, March 22. Senator Pileggi said the service is being offered through the PathWays PA Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. VITA is available for residents earning less than $50,000 annually.

"Every year, PathWays PA offers free basic income tax preparation services to lower-income residents," said Senator Pileggi (R-9). "The program helps tax filers access the Earned Income Tax Credit and other potential tax credits without incurring preparation fees or refund anticipation loans. I encourage area residents who need assistance preparing their basic tax return to call my Chester district office and schedule an appointment."

Appointments are required, and volunteers from PathWays PA – who are trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service – will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Local residents can schedule an appointment by calling Senator Pileggi's district office at (610) 447-5845, or by visiting the office at 415 Avenue of the States in Chester.

Last year, tax preparers for PathWays PA's VITA program completed more than 1,000 tax returns at 75 sites, returning a total of $1.69 million in refunds to residents of the Philadelphia region. The mobile VITA sites help tax filers who might have difficulty accessing free services due to scheduling and transportation issues.

PathWays PA is a nonprofit organization that aims to reduce poverty by helping clients achieve economic independence through self-sufficiency. More information about Pathways PA is available at www.PathWaysPA.org.
