Majority Leader of the Pennsylvania Senate

Senator Dominic Pileggi was elected to be Majority Leader
by his colleagues in November 2006 and again in November 2008. Senator Pileggi
represents the Ninth Senatorial District, which includes parts of Chester and
Delaware Counties. He has served in the Pennsylvania Senate since winning a
special election in October 2002.
As Majority Leader, Senator Pileggi coordinates the
legislative agenda for the Senate, manages the legislative calendar on the
Senate floor and plays a key role in floor debates. He led the effort to
rewrite Pennsylvania's 50-year-old Open Records Law, resulting in Act 3 of 2008,
which is now making many more government records open for public inspection.
Senator Pileggi also serves as Chairman of the Rules and
Executive Nominations Committee, as a member of the Appropriations Committee,
as a member of the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee, and as Chairman of
the Legislative Data Processing Committee. Senator Pileggi
is the former Chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing Committee, and a
former member of the State Planning Board, which develops recommendations for
state policies and actions regarding conservation and land use issues.
Prior to his election to the Senate, Senator Pileggi served
as Mayor of the City of Chester from 1998 to 2002. Senator Pileggi also served
as a Chester City Councilman from 1994 to 1998 and as a school board member in
the Chester-Upland School District.
An active, dedicated member of the community, Senator
Pileggi is a member of the St.
Joseph’s University Board of Trustees, the Chester Waterfront Industrial
Development Authority Board, and the Chester Salvation Army Board of Advisors.
He sits on the Board of Directors of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation,
the Delaware County Industrial Development Corporation, the Chester Boys and
Girls Club, and the Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. He is a member
and past president of the Rotary Club of Chester and a former member of the
Lincoln University Board of Trustees.
Recognized by the community for his outstanding leadership,
Senator Pileggi has received numerous honors and awards, including most recently,
the Williamson Award for Excellence in Community Service from the Williamson
Free School of Mechanical Trades 2010; the Citizenship Award from the Delaware
County Chapter of Filitalia International (2010); received an award from the Business Leadership Organized for Catholic Schools
(BLOCS) for his commitment to education 2010; was presented with an award by the
J. Crozer Library for his dedicated service as former Board President and
Trustee 2010; was honored by the Saint James Catholic High School Alumni Association
for his enduring commitment to education and the citizens of Pennsylvania 2010; was honored by the PA Freedom of Information Coalition for enacting a strong new
Open Records Law 2010;
the first Chester Police Athletic League Legislator Award 2009; the Freire
Charter School Bridge to Wisdom Award 2009; the PA Economic Development Association President's Award 2008; the Order Sons
of Italy, the Alphonse Sedotti Lodge of Southeastern Delaware County Community
Service Award 2008; the PA Newspaper Association Bill Northrop Freedom of
Information Act Award 2008; the Crozer-Chester Medical Center Nathan Speare
Regional Burn Treatment Center Award 2008; the Guardian of Small Business Award
2008; the Oxford Borough Outstanding Citizen Award 2008; the Benjamin Franklin
Medal for Distinguished Achievement 2008; the PA Coalition of Charter Schools
Trailblazer Award 2007; the American Red Cross David Henderson Humanitarian
Award for Community Service 2007; the National Italian American Political Action
Committee Lifetime Achievement Award in Public Service 2006; the Delaware County
Library System Outstanding Public Official Award 2006; the PA Sheriff's
Association Award 2006; the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Free Enterprise
Award 2006; and Toll Fellow, Council of State Governments 2006.
Senator Pileggi is a lifelong resident of the City of
Chester, where he resides with his wife, Diana, and their three children, Elisa,
Gabrielle and Michael.
Senator Pileggi was the recipient of a Presidential
Scholarship from Saint Joseph's University, where he received an A.B. degree in
Economics. He graduated from the Villanova School of Law in 1982.
